Happy New Year!

Winthrop High School Drama Society proudly presents this year’s Dinner Theatre production, “Boston Strong” at Prince Pizzeria in Saugus, beginning Jan. 12 at 7, and running four consecutive nights until Jan. 15.
Come join Winthrop High School’s finest performers as they take us on a Boston-centric musical journey featuring songs such as “Sweet Caroline”, “We are the Champions” and “Boston.” ~ Winthrop High School seniors Kelly Russo, Alana MacNeil, Eric Anderson, Mark Tracy, MaryKate Mancini, Ashley Singarella and Daniel Figuera lead the cast of 28, under the direction of choreographer Jamie Montesano and music director David Limina.
Tickets are $15 per person, and can be purchased in advanced or at the door. ~In addition, in keeping with the spirit of “Boston Strong,” there will be a 50/50 raffle each night to benefit the OneFund.
Please support the Winthrop High School Drama Parents Fund. ~Proceeds of this year’s production will help defray the costs of WHS’s participation in the Massachusetts Educational Theater Guild’s High School Drama Festival, and will also go toward the WHS drama scholarships offered to graduating seniors.
For more information, or to purchase tickets please call 781-656-5890 or email us at WHSDinnerTheatre@gmail.com.

The Town Clerk’s Office is now licensing dogs for the 2014 calendar year. A License Form will be included at the bottom of your annual Census this winter. Both the Census and your Dog License can be mailed in the same envelope. To avoid long lines at our counter, residents are strongly encouraged to mail in the form along with proof of rabies, a check and a self-addressed stamped envelope, and the tag will be mailed back to you. Tags must be purchased before March 1, 2014 to avoid fines. Citizens are encouraged to subscribe to get dog notices via email. Please visit the Town Clerk’s page at
and click on “Subscribe To Dog Notices”. You will receive a confirmation email and in the future receive emails from the Town Clerk regarding Dog Licensing and Rabies Clinic information.

In 2007, the Metropolitan Beaches Commission and Save the Harbor/Save the Bay conducted eight public hearings in nine beachfront communities to help identify opportunities and obstacles on the beaches. More than 1,000 people took the time to tell us what they enjoyed most about their favorite beach as well as what they believed needed improvement. The Metropolitan Beaches Commission reported findings from the public hearings in “Beaches We Can Be Proud Of.”

Since that time, the Patrick Administration, the Legislature, and the Boston Globe have endorsed the findings and recommendations in the report on how to improve the region’s beaches. The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) has made considerable investments in the region’s beaches to address your concerns.

In 2013, we were asked by the Legislature to reconvene the Metropolitan Beaches Commission. This year we conducted two hearings at the State House and 8 public hearings in Lynn and Nahant, Revere, Winthrop, East Boston South Boston, Dorchester, Quincy and Hull.

Over the course of these hearings we have heard from nearly 1000 participants who told us what is working well and what needs improvement on their beach.

We want your input as well. Please take 10 minutes to fill out this survey and share your thoughts with us as we work to turn these beaches from good to great.  To take the survey, go to:
