Happy New Year!
Congratulations to Police Chief Terrence Delehanty for completing his training at the FBI National Academy. Chief Delehanty studied for eleven weeks at the academy, located in Quantico, Virginia. The training included classes, leadership conferences and a physical education/conditioning program. He officially graduated on December 14th. Great job and welcome back!
Congratulations to Grade 5 student Connor Clarke, who is competing in the Irish Step Dancing World Championship in March. Break a leg Connor!
Ten Mock Trial students attended the National Institute of Trial Advocacy Mock Trials on Sunday, December 9th at the Boston Common Hotel. The program provides new lawyers with a week-long training in trail presentation culminating in a full day of mock trials with students serving as jurors. Students who participated: Ana Aravena, Carla Aravena, Leah Cautillo, Dominic DeRocco, Caitlin Egan, Moriah Goldblatt, Emily Kilroy, Michael Mazzone, Katelyn Tarrio, and Mark Tracy.
The WHS Student Council hosted a blood drive on Thursday, December 13th and collected 47 pints of blood. The event was led by Senior Event Chairperson Erin O’Leary and Advisor Lindsay McCracken.
Congratulations to our high school Students of the Month for November: Tatiana Santilli, Meg Dolan, Domenic DeMasi, Annie Mahoney, Katelyn Stimpson, Brady Magrath, James Forster, Kevin Furey, Robert Pino, Mark Tracy, Josue Gonzalez, Lucas Acosta, Alex Bellofatto, Julianna Kennedy, and Michael Mazzone. Great job –keep up the good work!

WINTHROP YOUTH LACROSSE REGISTRATION - SPRING 2013
This spring we will be taking another step forward as our Winthrop Youth Lacrosse Program will be joining the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League (MBYLL); The MBYLL promotes the growth of the game of lacrosse throughout Massachusetts by providing leadership, guidance, training and structure to anyone interested in lacrosse. ALL TEAMS BEING ENTERED INTO THIS LEAGUE ARE TO BE ENTERED BY THE END OF DECEMBER SO IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU REGISTER THIS MONTH IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN PLAYING. Registration is now open and you can register through the Winthrop Parks and Recreation Department. Players will be placed on teams based on grade and age with the following guidelines:
U 15 - 8th and 7th grades – must be under 15 on January 1st prior to the start of the season
U 13 - 6th and 5th grades - must be under 13 on January 1st prior to the start of the season
U 11 - 4th and 3rd grades - must be under 11 on January 1st prior to the start of the season
U 9 - 1st and 2nd grades - must be under 9 on January 1st prior to the start of the season
*If a player is age eligible to play at the middle or high school level they are encouraged to participate in that program.
Additional Program Information:
· 8 Game Schedule starting in April with all games being played on Sundays
· Practices will be held 2x per week
· Teams will be capped to promote max playing time (We may have two U-11 Teams)
· Registration is $150.00 per player which includes mandatory enrollment in US Lacrosse
· Our goal is to have an all-GIRLS U-11 & U-13 team if the numbers allow
The monthly informal networking event will be held Friday, January 4th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm at the E.B. Newton Cultural Center on the 1st floor. ~This event is free and open to everyone, so bring a friend or two, your other half or a co-worker. ~You don’t have to be from Winthrop. ~Please no children. ~If you have business cards or marketing materials, please bring those. ~Light refreshments will be served.
CAPIC Satellite Site in Winthrop
CAPIC’s Emergency Assistance/Crisis Intervention Program has changed its schedule at the Winthrop Senior Center. Representatives from this program will be available to meet with clients on Fridays from 11am-12pm. If you have any questions regarding this change or would like to make an appointment please contact Lee Nugent or Silvia Frometa at 617-884-6130.

11am-12pm – Emergency Services/Crisis Intervention
12pm-1pm – After School Program/Summer Camp
