From DCR Massachusetts:
Winthrop Beach Nourishment Project
Phase One – Southern Section

February 28, 2013 – March 14, 2013

The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation
(DCR) is working to revitalize areas of Winthrop Beach to
make it safe and user-friendly to its nearby residents. The DCR
and McCourt Construction are in their eighth week of actual
site work on the beach.

McCourt Construction will continue to move forward with its
daily excavation on Winthrop Beach. At this time, an average
of 90-100 loads and about 2,000 Cubic Yards are being moved
per day.

The removing and resetting of the revetment is all but complete.
McCourt is more than halfway done with the installation of the
protective dust control fencing on the seawall, beginning at the
Beacon Street Rotary and ending at Culter Street. The boat
ramp demolition is complete, and McCourt will begin forming
and reconstructing the ramp in the coming days.

The town of Winthrop Park Committee has taken on our first project: the renovation of Pico Park. In the past few months, the old, outdated and unsafe playground equipment has been removed, and new colorful, play equipment has been ordered and is set to go in this spring. The old rusty and damaged fence around the street hockey court has also been repaired. We need your help to put the finishing touches on Pico Park, including benches, trees, waste receptacles and completing the half-basketball court and street hockey court.

In order for us to complete this project we need your help. We have several fundraising events coming up this year. Our first effort is THE MEMORIAL BRICK PROJECT. You and your family can purchase bricks whick will be placed in an area near the benches. There are two size bricks available,
4" x 8" or 8" x 8". More than 75% of the revenue from the bricks will go directly to paying for park renovations. Our goal is to sell over 200 bricks.
