Hats off to the Winthrop Middle School students who participated in the bake sale last Saturday for the family of Martin Richard. The students raised $1,753.00 for the Richard Family Fund. Great job!

Winthrop High School was featured in Newsweek Magazine recently for Best High Schools 2013. Winthrop High ranked #44 in the State of Massachusetts and #1504 Nationwide. We are very proud!

Jeff Allison, a former professional baseball player, came to Winthrop High School yesterday and spoke with students about his struggles with substance abuse. The Winthrop Wellness Committee coordinated the assembly which was sponsored by Winthrop Charities, Friends Helping Friends, and Viking Pride Foundation.

Congratulations to Winthrop Middle School Students of the Month for Citizenship: Neville Nowak and Bruna Coelho. Great job!

The Community Garden at the Senior Center has gotten off to a great start this year. All eighteen plots have been assigned, and planting has begun.  Included in the group this year are avid gardeners, Eric Ferguson and Natalie Beck, who are coordinating their efforts to assist all the gardeners, build a wheelchair accessible plot, and also put together a compost area. Their expertise is greatly appreciated, and we hope during the summer to showcase the Community Garden.

It's another Full Moon Open-Mic Night at the Beacon Photography gallery. This Friday starting at 7pm there will be several Berklee College of Music students performing live for us. In addition we have Jacques Dorier performing again with his signature mandolin and folksy sound. And if there are any singers out there, we now have a Karaoke setup for virtually any song. Suggested donation at the door is $5 per person. Kids are welcome.
