GRANTS

The Grants Department's mission is to develop, coordinate and administer Federal and State grant funded programs for all Town departments in order to enhance town revenue sources and provide services that the Town of Winthrop may not have the initial funding to implement.  In the past five years, this office has secured and managed over three million dollars in Federal and State funds for municipal projects.

The Grants Department has the responsibility initiating, completing and updating community planning documents required by the State.  Examples of this are the recently completed Winthrop Community Development Plan, the Open Space and Recreation Plan, and the Harbor Plan.  A $30,000 project providing zoning and planning technical assistance to the Town in order to revise and upgrade existing developmental policies and procedures is now underway.

The Town is a member of the North Suburban H.O.M.E. Consortium, joining Revere, Malden, Melrose, Arlington, Chelsea and Everett; and receives funding for housing rehabilitation projects.  *Check this site for our Home Improvement Loan Program information.
