Mission Statement
The Winthrop Harbormaster's Department works to keep Winthrop Harbor safe by enforcing local and state boating laws and safety regulations, as well as coordinating and assisting in first aid, water rescue, and emergency evacuations.
The Winthrop Harbormaster's Department oversees miles of coastline, including waters in East Boston as well as the water surrounding Deer Island. The Harbormaster handles all permits for vessels in town waters.
Harbormaster's duties also include the safety and security of Winthrop's waterways. Specific objectives are to maintain a physical presence by patrolling harbor and waterfront areas and operating the state-funded Pump-Out boat.
