Using the Library
Library Card
A library card may be obtained free of charge by any adult with proper I.D. Proper I.D. consists of a picture I.D., and something with your present address on it. A driver’s license, utility bill, checkbook or envelope that has been mailed to you can be used. When a student reaches the age of fourteen and is in the ninth grade he is eligible to receive an adult card. Winthrop library cards may be used in any of the North of Boston Library Exchange (NOBLE) libraries. If your library card is lost, stolen, your address or telephone number has changed please notify us at once. There is a one-dollar fee for a replacement card.

l Books may be renewed once as long as the book is not on reserve for another patron.

l Videos, DVD’s, and framed art prints may not be renewed.

l Books on cassette and CD, music CD’s, and CD-ROMs may be renewed once as long as they are not on reserve.

Renewals may be made in person, on the telephone or on-line. The telephone number of the adult library is 617-846-1703, and the staff will ask for the name of the person the item has been checked out to. To renew you books on-line you must have a Personal Identification Number (PIN). To get a PIN number just ask at the Circulation Desk, and they will give you one.

Books may be requested on-line in the library or at home. All you need is a PIN (Personal Identification Number). If you cannot find the item you want in the Noble catalog, we can search other databases or send a request to Noble’s Interlibrary Loan Department.

PIN = Personal Identification Number
Bring your library card to any NOBLE library and ask at the circulation desk for a PIN number. With a PIN number you may access your library account from any computer link to the Internet, and check your account, renew books and order books from any of the NOBLE libraries. The books will be sent to Winthrop and the staff will telephone you when they arrive.
