There will be a public hearing scheduled for Monday, April 7, 2014 from 4:00PM6:00PM (longer if necessary) at the Revere High School Auditorium (101 School Street), which is intended to provide the Mass Gaming Commission with the opportunity to hear comments or concerns relative to the proposal of Mohegan Sun Massachusetts LLC’s to build a casino/resort establishment in Revere, including but not limited to the scope and quality of the gaming area and amenities, the integration of the gaming establishment into the surrounding community and the extent of required mitigation plans and to receive input from members of the public from an impacted community.

Beginning March 31st, dogs can be fined by Animal Control if not properly licensed per MGL Chapter 140 Section 137. ~A License Form was included at the bottom of your annual Census this winter. To avoid long lines at our counter, residents are strongly encouraged to mail in the form along with proof of rabies, a check and a self-addressed stamped envelope, and the tag will be mailed back to you. Tags must be purchased before March 31, 2014 to avoid late fees. ~Citizens are encouraged to subscribe to get dog notices via email. and click on Subscribe To Dog Notices. You will receive a confirmation email and in the future receive emails from the Town Clerk regarding Dog Licensing and Rabies Clinic information.

Congratulations to the following high school students who participated in the annual Regional History Day Competition on Saturday, March 1st at Winchester High School and received Honorable Mention for their exhibits: Abigail Love & Christine Haskell for “Extra, Extra Read All About It- The Newsboys Strike of 1899”; Carly O’Keefe & Maura Lanza for “The Disability Movement” and Annie Mahoney & Mia Simonetti for “Euthanasia: Choice Between Life & Death” Great job to all who participated!

Congratulations to our WHS Student Council! They received the Gold Council of Excellence Award for the 2nd year in a row, and a Silver Medal Award for their lip sync performance. They were also awarded a plaque for being the top charitable school in the State of Massachusetts for their Polar Plunge Fundraiser. Jessica Vigliotta was elected MASC State Secretary. Seniors Andrew Almeida, Diandra Gillis, and Lexi Vacarro were recognized as Commonwealth Award Recipients. Also, Vincent Crossman was given a Distinguished Service Award for 15 years to the MASC. Great job!

Winthrop Art Association Demonstration
Join us for a Taste of India
Tuesday, April 1st at 7:30pm

We will show you how to wrap a Sari, color a Rangoli, receive a Bindi and more.  Take a slide show trip through “Incredible & Colorful” India.  We will visit Bangalore, the Taj Mahal, At Agra, Jaipur, Deogarh, Udaipur, Varansi and Sarai at Toria.

UPCOMING PUBLIC SAFETY EXERCISE TO FOCUS ON TUNNEL RESPONSE
Exercise requires overnight closure of Sumner Tunnel connecting E. Boston to Downtown

MassDOT, in conjunction with its Boston-area public safety partners, will hold a training exercise on March 18 from 10pm to March 19 at 2am inside the Sumner Tunnel to simulate a multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional response to a motor vehicle incident involving a fire and multiple injuries. The Sumner will be closed to traffic during the exercise known as Project ICITE (Integrated Communications Incident Tunnel Exercise).

On Monday, March 17th at 6:00 pm in the Cummings Multipurpose room, there will be a meeting to review the façade of the new Middle/High School Project.  The public is invited to attend and give their input.

SENIOR TAX WORK-OFF PROGRAM
The Senior Citizen Volunteer Service/Tax Liability Reduction Program allows seniors (over the age of 60) to volunteer their services in exchange for a reduction in their property tax bill. Participants may earn a maximum reduction of $750.00 per fiscal year based on a rate per hour of service that cannot exceed the Commonwealth's minimum wage.
Senior volunteer Tax Program Requirements are:
You must be a tax payer and 60 years of age or older during the tax year when the volunteering is completed and the tax reduction is credited.
To be credited, the volunteer must have an ownership interest and reside in the property year round.
Total reduction will not exceed $750.00.
93 hours must be completed by October 15th of the credited year.
A CORI Release Form must accompany the application.
If you are interested in this program, you can pick-up an application packet at the Senior Center beginning on Wednesday, March 12th. All applications should be returned to the Senior Center and will be accepted until the close of business on Weds. April 16, 2014. Volunteers will be selected by~a lottery drawing which will be on Wednesday, April 23, 2014. If you have any questions regarding this program, please call the Senior Center at: 617-846-8538.

Cupid Splash
Volunteers are welcome for this year's Cupid Splash which will be held on March 29th at noon on Revere Beach in front of Kelly's Roast Beef.
The Splash is a benefit for Save the Harbor which funds many activities on Winthrop, Revere and Constitution Beaches.
Arrive 30 minutes before the actual plunge. ~We recommend that you bring a big towel or blanket for after the plunge
and be sure to bring supporters to cheer you on!

The splasher who raises the most money will be awarded a round-trip ticket on JetBlue airlines!!
