Congratulations to Pat McGee, who received a special award at the Northeastern Conference Coaches Banquet for her distinguished career as head coach of the Winthrop High School boys track program.  Great job!

The Viking Pride Foundation will be hosting their second annual summer concert Saturday, August 6 at 8:15 at Miller Field.  Harold Melvin’s Bluenotes and Evelyn “Champagne” King will perform.  For more information, go to www.vikingpride.org or call 617-539-4873.

Thank you to the Beautification Committee, who spent an hour this past Saturday cleaning up litter and weeds at the Belle Isle entrance to
Winthrop. All debris has been removed. Thank you for volunteering your time.

The Special Olympics will hold their track and field events on Saturday, July 9th at 10:00 A.M.  People are encouraged to watch and cheer on the participants at Miller Field.

A rabies clinic will be held July 9th from 9am to 11am at the former DPW garage behind the United Methodist Church off Winthrop Street.  Licenses can also be purchased at that time for $10.00.  The Winthrop Board of Health is holding the clinic.

License dogs beginning July 1st.  If you would like to register by mail, please download a Dog License application from our website at
Remember to fill it out with your check, as well as a self addressed stamped envelope, and a copy of a current rabies certificate.  The licensing period is between July 1st and August 15th.  After September 1st the Dog Officer will follow up and will be issuing tickets for non-compliance.  Applications can also be picked up at local groomers or in the Town Clerk’s Office.

As a reminder, dogs are not allowed in any “tot lots” (where children play) on or off leash.  Nor are they allowed to relieve themselves on School or Town Hall property.  Please be respectful of our beautiful town and its citizens!
