On behalf of the Town of Winthrop Conservation Commission, the following event is open to all who wish to attend.  It is a free public event on Monday, July 11, from 10am to 2pm which is being hosted by the USGS & CZM called
The Seafloor Revealed: ~What Lies Beneath the Massachusetts Coastal Ocean?

Speaker DeLeo will be hosting his annual Winthrop Beach Clean-up on Saturday, July 9th at 9:00am at Winthrop Beach.  This is a great way for residents to volunteer their time and to help preserve our town’s shoreline.

The Special Olympics will hold their track and field events on Saturday, July 9th at 10:00 A.M.  People are encouraged to watch and cheer on the participants at Miller Field.

The Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its annual “Old Fashioned Family Day at the Beach.” on Saturday, July 23rd at Yirrell Beach on Point Shirley.  In the event of rain, the event will be held Sunday, July 24.  There will be lots to do for both kids and adults, with activities running from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. There will be a DJ, games, raffles, a barbecue and much more.  Contests will take place all day.  They are free to enter and always entertaining.  This will be the 14th year the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce has sponsored this summertime event, and it keeps on getting bigger and better.  For more information, call 617-846-9898.

The Winthrop Playmakers is sponsoring a walk-a-thon on Saturday, August 13th from 9:30am - 12:30pm to help raise money for their Turn Up the Volume fund.  Funds raised will go towards improving the sound system at the Playhouse. Starting at the Playhouse, located at 60 Hermon Street, the walk will go to Deer Island and then "back to the Playhouse" for a bite to eat. Get people to sponsor you on the walk. Tickets are on sale now from the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce for its annual Sunset Cruise on Boston Harbor. The two & a half hour excursion will be Wednesday, August 3 leaving from the Town Pier at the Public Landing, 707 Shirley Street. Boarding is at 6:30 p.m., returning at 9:30 p.m. The elegant premier vessel of Boston Harbor Cruises, the Majesty, will take a scenic tour of the inner harbor. A fun way to beat the heat, it is a relaxing night out with friends and neighbors. Back by popular demand, the band “FineLine” with John and Lori Wadkins will be providing the evening’s entertainment. Call 617-846-9898 or stop by the office at 207 Hagman Road for tickets. The Viking Pride Foundation will be hosting their second annual summer concert Saturday, August 6 at 8:15 at Miller Field.  Harold Melvin’s Bluenotes and Evelyn “Champagne” King will perform.  For more information, go to www.vikingpride.org or call 617-539-4873.

A rabies clinic will be held July 9th from 9am to 11am at the former DPW garage behind the United Methodist Church off Winthrop Street.  Licenses can also be purchased at that time for $10.00.  The Winthrop Board of Health is holding the clinic.
