THIS WAY TO THE BOAT YARD: The Winthrop Public Library & Museum presents a special exhibit of images from Reid’s Boat Yard in Winthrop. Located on Pleasant Street in Winthrop from 1918 until the end of World War II, Willis J. Reid’s boat yard built yachts, work boats and military vessels. John Booras of Winthrop has collected a wide variety of images, plans and documents from the boat yard’s heyday. Together with John, we’ve organized them into an exhibit that focuses on the boats built at Reids as well as images of men working on them in the yard. The exhibit, which opened on October 7th, is located in the Museum on the top floor of the Frost Building. Displays will be adjusted periodically in the coming months to feature different aspects of activities there and different types of boats built at Reids. The
exhibit is open whenever the library is. Come see our collection of images and documents, celebrating a part of Winthrop’s maritime history from days gone by. For more information, call (617) 846-1703.
