Nancy Williams, director of the Council on Aging, has been selected by the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Woman as one of the Commonwealth’s Unsung Heroines of 2013.  Annual Unsung Heroine honors go to incredible women who have been nominated by legislators from their districts and selected for their contributions to their community and the Commonwealth.  Unsung Heroines are women who don’t always make the news, but truly make a difference in their communities, businesses, or volunteer endeavors.  She was selected because she is a woman who, without fanfare or recognition, uses her time, talent, spirit, and enthusiasm to enrich the lives of others.  Nancy will be honored and celebrated at the 2013 Unsung Heroines Ceremony on Monday, April 29 at the Massachusetts State House.  Congratulations!

Community Garden at the Deleo Senior Center
If you are interested in participating in the Community Garden, there are 4’x4’ plots available.  Applications are available at the senior center and a lottery will be held at the end of March.  This is not just for seniors, anyone can participate.  There is a $20.00 fee per year if you are chosen to cover the costs of maintaining the area and supplying water.  We are hopeful that this will be another successful planting season!

The Parks Committee is wrapping up their Memorial Brick Project fundraiser. Engraved bricks should be ordered by the end of March so that the full order can be delivered and installed at Pico Park by mid-June. The new playground equipment should be installed this spring and brand new asphalt surfacing for the street hockey court and basketball half-court will be coming as well. We need the community's help to complete the project and put the finishing touches on the new park. Parks and Recreation’s annual Character Breakfast and Easter Egg Hunt will be held March 23rd from 8:30-11:30am in the Ft. Banks School cafeteria.  Enjoy breakfast with the Easter Bunny and many of your other favorite characters as well as music, dancing and of course the Easter Egg Hunt.

The Playmakers are excited to bring to the stage a tribute to Old Time Radio Shows. Shows like Duffy's Tavern and The Bickersons entertained the world and now you can see the magic behind the radio.

The Playmakers have made the exciting decision to replace our final musical of the 2012-2013 Season, All Shook Up, with the hilarious Broadway hit Avenue Q.  This show will be directed by Michael Lacey, music direction by Emma Boroson and choreography by Jocelyn White.

Auditions will be held April 1 and 2 from 7-10 at The Playhouse.~

There are three timeslots each night; 7, 8, and 9. Please send audition requests to~avenueqauditions@gmail.com~with preferred audition time. Requests will be accommodated on a first come, first serve basis.~

Audition Requirements:
1. Please prepare 32 bars of a vocal selection which best showcases your vocal range. Please bring sheet music in the proper key. An accompanist will be provided. Please DO NOT sing material from Avenue Q.

2. Please prepare a monologue in any character style, no less than one minute in length.

3. All those auditioning will be given a movement audition. Please consider this when choosing clothing/footwear.

If necessary, we will hold Callbacks on Thursday April 4 at 7pm.

We hope that you will go "All the Way for Save the Harbor Save the Bay,”~but if you just want to come to the party, just register before the event pay the regular registration fee.  If you don’t want to win any prizes, but, just come and have fun, then you won’t have to pay!  For Kids under 18, at Winthrop Beach we will have prizes for the best costumes – whether or not you pay!  We are also providing coffee, hot cocoa and chowder at our beach!
