The North Shore Chamber of Commerce held its 2013 Honor Scholars Recognition Dinner recently. The students in the top 5% of the Class of 2013 were among the honorees: Michael Lessard (Harvard University), David Gallo (University of Massachusetts Honors Program), Alessandra Scorzella (Boston College), Erin Walsh (Providence Honors Program), Nicole O’Brien (MIT) and David Tracy (Emmanuel College). Great job!
Winthrop High School seniors Nicole O’Brien and Michael Lessard were the recipients of the Northeastern Conference Scholar Athlete Awards. Congratulations!
Congratulations to Peter Gobiel for being named National Coach of The Year. Peter is the coach for the Massachusetts Gymnastics Team, which won the Nationals. Great job Pete!
On Saturday June 1st the WINARC Track and Field Events will be held at 10:00 A.M. at Miller Field. All town employees, family and friends are invited to come down, cheer on the athletes and enjoy a cookout immediately following the awards ceremony. The entire event should be wrapped up by 1 P.M., and it is a rewarding event to attend. Come down and support this great event!

Town-Wide Yard Sale set for June 8
Winthrop’s 5th annual Town-Wide Yard Sale is scheduled for Saturday, June 8.~ Participants may sign up now at the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce.
By coordinating with fellow residents to hold yard sales at the same time, a larger event is created that will draw in large numbers of shoppers. ~Over 50 homes are expected to participate in this year’s Town-Wide Yard Sale which is sure to attract lots of deal-seekers from all over the region to Winthrop.
Winthrop residents are encouraged to clean out the attic, basement or garage and turn their used items into dollars.
The fee to participate is just $25 which includes a spot on the official map, advertising, internet listing, and balloons delivered to the home that morning.
The deadline to sign-up is May 31, with the Town-Wide Yard Sale taking place June 8 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., rain or shine.~ For more information call 617-846-9898 or go to www.winthropchamber.com.
