The Parking Ban is Lifted as of Sunday, January 7, 2018 at 12:00 PM.
Motorists must remove vehicles from the streets where parking was allowed during the ban and all municipal lots by 7:00 AM on Monday Morning in order to allow for snow removal operations. Please note the change in this time from the previous post. The operational plan was changed in order to allow the crews some time to rest and recover from four days of storm cleanup. Vehicles may not return to those streets or lots until snow removal operations are complete in that area. These locations include, but are not limited to:
- Crest Avenue Municipal Lot
- Delby's Corner Municipal Lot
- George Street Municipal Lot
- Grovers Avenue Municipal Lot
- Hagman Road Municipal Lot
- Hagman Road Extension Municipal Lot
- Larsen Rink / Memorial Gym Municipal Lot
- Public Landing
- Walden Street Municipal Lot
- Winthrop Street Municipal Lot (Old DPW Lot/Rear of Methodist Church)
- Any other municipal lot or on-street location where parking is allowed during a snow parking ban
No parking will be allowed in these lots from 8:00 AM on Monday, January 8 until such time as snow removal operations in each location are complete. Once a lot is cleared, vehicles will be allowed to return.
Motorists are reminded that when moving vehicles back on to the streets, they must be parked within 12 inches of the curb, regardless of any snow banks that remain. In the event a snow bank prevents parking within 12 inches of the curb, it is the motorist's responsibility to properly remove the snow, or park elsewhere. Vehicles parked more than 12 inches from the curb or obstructing the flow of traffic may be ticketed or towed at the owner's expense.
Please note that town ordinance prohibits anyone from obstructing the public street or sidewalk without a permit from the town council. Therefore, any chairs, barrels, traffic cones or other objects placed in the public way to "reserve" parking spaces will be removed and disposed of immediately.
Residents are also reminded that town ordinance requires the owner or tenant of a property abutting a sidewalk to remove snow or ice from the sidewalk. The complete language of this ordinance, including the November 1, 2016 amendment is:
12.24.010 - Failure to remove now and ice from sidewalks—Penalty.
No owner or tenant of an estate abutting on a sidewalk shall place or suffer to remain for more than six hours between sunrise and sunset any snow upon such sidewalk or any ice upon such sidewalk unless such ice is made even and covered with sand, salt, ice melt or such other product so as to prevent slipping. The width of the area to be cleared shall be thirty-six (36) inches and suitable for passage of a wheelchair. The owner or tenant shall also ensure that any handicap access ramp on the sidewalk abutting the property is also cleared. No person in the act of removing snow from a sidewalk, driveway or any other area, cause snow to be placed in the street or other public ways. For each offense under this section, the owner or tenant shall be liable for fines of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) for the first offense; fifty dollars ($50.00) for the second offense and one hundred dollars ($100.00) for the third and each subsequent offense.
