Rededication of Biggio Square Saturday, September 16, 2017
Motorists should expect traffic restrictions
Winthrop Interim Town Manager Terence Delehanty wishes to inform the public of a planned celebration in honor of Winthrop resident Pfc. Andrew G. Biggio on Saturday, September 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the intersection of Hermon Street and Main Street.
Through the Office of Veterans Services, the town will join Governor Charles Baker, Speaker of the House Representative Robert A. DeLeo, Senator Joseph Boncore the Biggio family and hundreds of other invited guests in re-dedicating this square, just feet from where Mr. Biggio was born and raised, in his honor as Pfc. Andrew G. Biggio Memorial Square.
Due to the large crowd that is anticipated for this event and the public safety need to close the end of Hermon Street to traffic during the re-dedication, motorists are advised to expect traffic delays and those who take busses should expect that bus service will be diverted to Walden Street during the ceremony.
The following traffic restrictions and impacts will be in effect from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 16th:
- Temporary closure of Hermon Street from Centre Street to Main Street
- Temporary No Parking Westerly Side of Hermon Street
- Resident traffic only from Atlantic Street to Linden Street
- Atlantic Street residents are advised to use Winthrop Street
- Traffic delays on Main Street
